Lincoln – A Small County with Big Possibilities
Lincoln County, NC is one of the smaller and less populous counties in North Carolina. Lincoln real estate spans an area of only 307 square miles and with a population of around 64,000 residents. Within its boundaries are Lincoln properties known as townships. These five townships are North Brook, Catawba Springs, Howards Creek, Iron Station and Lincolnton. Founded in 1779 and named for the Revolutionary War General Benjamin Lincoln, Lincoln County has all of the modern conveniences of the larger areas of the present day while retaining the charm and hospitality of the Old South.
Located in Iron Station, the IPG airport serves the corporate and private sector in a relief capacity for the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport providing convenience to Lincoln homes and visitors. The IPG provides services such as aircraft rental and maintenance, charter services, hangar storage and pilot supplies. IPG is attractive to many pilots for its MIRL and REIL lighting on the runway and runway length of 5,500 feet. Growth plans include utilizing Lincoln properties to add more hangar space and two helicopter pads, ramps and taxiways, corporate hangars and an expanded terminal.
The history of Lincoln real estate stems from the ironworks industry. The Madison Iron Furnace was constructed in 1806 and spawned the development of many Lincoln, NC homes. As of 1823, Lincoln County production was at 900 tons of bar iron and 200 tons of cast hollow ironware in its ten forges and four furnaces. There was an influx of workers to the area looking for Lincoln homes for sale due to jobs provided by the industry. Prior to this time, agriculture and textiles were among the few items on Lincoln, NC listings of industry. The Lincoln County Historical Association is passionate about preserving documents and artifacts from the early days of the iron and textile industries of the county.
Culture is a prominent aspect of Lincoln County. The Lincoln Theatre Guild of Lincoln County provides the opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy a variety of performances in theatres around the county. Another great way to become a part of the community is to participate in one of the three municipal parks’ outdoor activities. These parks include East Lincoln Park and Beatty’s Ford Park in Denver and the McBee Street Park in Lincolnton. Lincoln homes in the vicinity have easy access to softball, horseshoes, disc golf, a splash park area, playground equipment, an amphitheatre and groomed hiking trails. Of course, Lake Norman’s beautiful shores make up most of Lincoln County’s eastern border and provide residents of Lincoln County numerous ways to enjoy the area’s temperate climate by boat or casting for year round fishing.
